4 WVBA Teams Qualify for JOs

WVBA 17-Black pose after their 2nd Place Finish at Prime Time Saturday

SEATTLE, WA - 4/16/06
WVBA had four of their eight teams qualify on Saturday for a trip to Atlanta in July to compete in the USA Volleyball Junior Olympic Championship.

WVBA 18-Black finished 1st overall after defeating KJ 18 Baden in an exciting double final. The Academy 18s sent KJ's top team down to the loser's bracket with a 2-0 set win in the winner's bracket final.

KJ defeated Puget Sound 18 Gold in the loser's bracket final to again face WVBA for the overall finals. KJ beat WVBA in 2 to force a double final 1-set match to 25. WVBA outplayed KJ in that last contest and earned the Club National bid by taking 1st Place overall.

WVBA 18-Red finished a respectable 5th place Saturday after facing WVBA 18-Black in the winner's bracket before dropping to the loser's bracket. They fought through the loser's bracket to finish in 5th place.

WVBA 17-Black also earned a bid to JOs yesterday with a 2nd place finish. The 2nd place team earns a Club American bid which is a tier below the Club National level at the national championships.

WVBA 17-Black beat NW Juniors (25-10, 25-8), Puyallup Juniors (24-26, 25-23, 15-12) and Sudden Impact (25-21, 17-15, 16-14) en route to the winner's finals where they fell to Puget Sound (16-25, 25-21, 10-15).

The Academy 17s then beat KJ 17 Baden in the loser's final (20-25, 25-18, 15-10) to meet Puget Sound again in the overall finals. WVBA lost to Puget Sound in 2 sets (20-25, 21-25) to earn the Club America bid after 16 games over 11 hours.

WVBA 16-Black finished 2nd overall to win another Club American bid by falling to Puget Sound 16 Gold in both winner's finals rounds.

WVBA 16-Red had a shorter day than they would have liked with an early loss that sent them prematurely into the loser's bracket. They didn't fare much better there.

WVBA 15-Black earned another Club American bid to JOs with a 2nd place finish falling to KJ in the finals.

14-Black just missed a bid with a 3rd place finish Saturday

13-Black also finished just one place away from another bid with a 2nd place finish yesterday. There is only 1 Club National bid available in the 13 & Under Division.

WVBA would like to congratulate Amy and Chris Koski on the birth of their boy Damian last weekend. Mom and baby are doing great and we expect to see Amy back in the gym next week. I'm sure she will have plenty of volunteers to hold Damian at practices and upcoming tournaments. We'll have to get a boy's team going soon!
