WVBA Post Double at President's Day


WVBA 16-Black and 15-Black share the victory podium at President's Day

SEATTLE, WA - Feb. 21, 2006
WVBA was well represented in the winner's circle at the Adidas® President's Day Tournament over the holiday weekend.

WVBA 16-Black and 15-Black both earned 1st place finishes in U16 Gold and Silver divisions respectively. Both teams ran through the tournament field with only one loss each.

WVBA 16-Red finished 5th in the D1 Silver Division bracket on Monday.

14-Black finished 3rd in the D1 Gold Division bracket on Monday. The U14 division had a very strong field with some quality teams from Oregon that challenged 14-Black, especially after round 1.

Carmen Vasilatos had an amazing day hitting in the middle and playing all the way around. &quo;Abby Wegley put on the libero jersey for the first time ever and played tenacious defense, and helped us tremendously on serve receive," said head coach Carolyn Papineau.

13-Black won the U14 D2 Bronze Division bracket on Monday for another WVBA podium appearance.

Final results will be updated as soon as they are reported in by coaches or posted on the tournament website.

Las Vegas
Three Academy teams spent their holiday weekend in Las Vegas for the 20th Invitational tournament hosted by the Southern California Volleybal Association. This tournament attracted most of the strongest teams from across the country. There were 268 U18 teams and 160 U17 teams in the tournament.

WVBA 18-Black, 18-Red, and 17-Black played over three days beginning on Saturday and ending on Monday. Day 1 results allowed 18-Black and 17-Black to move into the top half with 2nd-place finishes. 18-Red finished 4th in their first day of pool play. Day two brought a 3rd-place finish for 18-Black while 18-Red and 17-Black both finished 4th in their round 2 pools.

Monday's playoff competition lasted three matches for 18-Black. 18-Black played their way into the finals of Flight 1B and finished 72nd overall out of 268 teams.

The final day was shorter for both 17-Black and 18-Red with both teams going one and out to finish tied for 5th in their respective brackets. 18-Red played in Flight 6B and finished 236th overall. 17-Black played in Flight 2A and finished 73rd overall.
