Strong Results over Pres. Day Weekend

WVBA Mizuno 14s and Mizuno 15s after winning President's Day Tourney

SEATTLE, WA - Mar 1, 2008
Las Vegas Invitational
The three elder WVBA teams traveled to the Nevada desert to participate in the 22nd Las Vegas Invitational put on by the Southern California Volleyball Association over the President's Day weekend. The Las Vegas Invitational is one of the most prestigious events of the year for USAV club teams. Spread across a dozen playing sites the tournament attracts teams from across the USA and seemingly every college coach in America.

WVBA Mizuno 18 finished 21st in 18 Open (out of 120 teams) and finished the weekend with a 4-4 W-L record, their four losses were at the hands of four of the top teams in southern California: Goldenwest 18 Asics, Santa Barbara 18 Elite, SCVC 18 Nike, and TCA California 18 Black. Mizuno 18 beat Portland powerhouse Nike NW 18 Air/Elite on Sunday.

WVBA Mizuno 18-Red finished 105th in 18 Club (out of 156 teams) and finished the weekend with a 4-5 record. After a rocky 0-4 start the team regrouped and finished the tournament with a 4-1 run to advance to the finals of Flight 3B.

WVBA Mizuno 17 finished 13th in 17 Open (out of 89 teams) and finished the weekend with a 5-4 record. Mizuno 17 just missed a berth in the Gold Division bracket with a 13-15 loss to Renaissance Cleveland Sunday night.

President's Weekend Tourney
WVBA made an impressive showing at the NW Juniors President's Day Weekend Tournament held at various sites around the South Puget Sound area. WVBA finished the weekend with a 1st, 1st and two 3rd place finishes.

WVBA Mizuno 16 finished 3rd in Gold of U16 Division 1 with a loss in the semi-finals.

WVBA Mizuno 15 won the tournament after beating Capitol 15 Ice in the Gold final of the U15 division.

WVBA Mizuno 14 held their #1 overall seed by beating Power Surge 14-1 in the final. Their biggest test actually came in the semi-finals where they faced off against WVBA 14-Red who lost in a close 3-set match to finish 3rd in Gold.

Power League Schedule
The Puget Sound Power League enters its final seeding weekend with Mizuno 16 and Mizuno 15 playing on Saturday, and all others playing on Sunday.

WVBA Mizuno 18 and WVBA Mizuno 17 will be playing on Sunday in the 18 Gold Division at Auburn Mountainview High School. The Academy 18s will be the #1 seed in Pool B along with #2 Sudden Impact 18 Tsunami, #3 ITVBC 18 Under Armour, and #4 Narrows Purple 18-1. Mizuno 17s will be the #2 seed in Pool A along with #1 Puget Sound 18 Gold, #3 KJ 17 Baden, and #4 Cascade 18 Blue.

WVBA Mizuno 18-Red will be playing on Sunday in the 18 Copper Division at Interlake High School. They will be the #1 seed in Pool B along with #2 YMCA 17 Blaze, #3 High Velocity 18s, and Northshore Juniors 18 Jade.

WVBA Mizuno 16 and Mizuno 15 played on Saturday in the 16 Gold Division at Mountlake Terrace High School. The Academy 16s finished 2nd in their pool with wins over Puget Sound 16 Gold and Capitol 15 Ice. They lost to #1 UPVBC 16. This set up a crossover match in the afternoon against the #1 team from Pool B.

Mizuno 15 finished 1st in Pool B after beating Olympia 16-1 and Edmonds Elite and dropping the match to KJ 16s. Due to the 2-1 record they tied with Olympia, who they had already beaten so they won the head to head tiebreaker to finish 1st. This matched WVBA 15 with WVBA 16 in the crossover match.

WVBA Mizuno 15 beat Mizuno 16 in the crossover match. Olympia beat UPVBC 16 in the other crossover match. WVBA 16 then lost to UPVBC 16 to finish 4th overall and Mizuno 15 lost to Olympia in the finals to finish 2nd overall.
