14 Power League Results
Last weekend the Puget Sound Region hosted its first two rounds of the Power League for the U14 division. WVBA Mizuno 14 and Mizuno 14-Red played through qualifying rounds on Saturday and a normal Power League format on Sunday.

Mizuno 14 lost in the finals to Sudden Impact to finish 2nd in Gold. This was the only match they lost in two days.

14-Red almost set up a 1-2 finish in Gold with Mizuno 14 but came up short against Sudden Impact in the crossover match. Their only prior loss was to Mizuno 14.

They ended up losing to Power Surge to finish 4th in Gold. They will start day 3 of the Power League as the #2 seed in the A pool of Gold.

MLK Portland Results
All of the older teams participated in two separate MLK invitational tournaments. Mizuno 18, Mizuno 17 and Mizuno 16 traveled to Beaverton, OR to participate in the Oregon Juniors event at The Court. This event featured the best teams from the Puget Sound Region, the Columbia Empire Region and the Evergreen Region. The teams only played against teams from the other two regions. The competition was great.

MLK Portland - continued
Mizuno 18 finished with a 7-1 record with their only loss coming at the hands of Nike NW 18 Air Elite. Mizuno 17 finished with a 5-3 record after dropping the opening 3-set match to Nike NW 18 Air Elite, and to Oregon Juniors 18 Gold 17-19 in the 3rd set after leading 10-4 late Saturday. Their third loss came at the hands of Spokane Splash 18 in another 3-set match. Mizuno 16 dropped only a single match to Webfoot 16 Gold from Eugene, OR. They finished with a record of 7-1.

MLK Juanita Results
WVBA Mizuno 18-Red and Mizuno 15 both participated in the MLK Invitational held at Juanita HS. The weekend started with Mizuno 15s playing in the 16s division on Saturday and Sunday morning. They played well and finished the tournament with a 12-3 overal game W-L record.

18 Red saw action at the MLK Invitational on Sunday and Monday. The weekend started out with two wins, the first against Yakima's Eisenhower Spikers, quickly followed by a win against newcomer club "The Edge" from Tacoma. Kim Strenge and Marisa Maurer combined quick footwork and precise timing to shut down their dominant middle attack and lead the team to its second victory of the day. Northwest Juniors 17 Thunder came out ready to play and took the first two games, but the Academy learned something about "competitive edge" and took the third game convincingly, 25-13.

Monday's matches provided an opportunity to see some local competition in Sudden Impact 18s as well as a tough team from Saint Maries, Idaho, High Mountain. In a day that was dominated by strong serving, Abby Wegley held down the serve receive with her consistency, but the Academy struggled against both tough serving teams and dropped their final two matches of the weekend.
