Emerald City Classic a Success

Minas team posing with Danny Glover at Embassy Suites on Wednesday

SEATTLE, WA - Jun. 2, 2007
We would like to thank all of the teams that attended the 2007 Emerald City Classic Invitational. The parents of WVBA were proud to host your teams over the 3-day weekend and hope that you enjoyed yourselves as much as we enjoyed having you in attendance.

Candis Carter Awards
Three deserving ladies received the distinguished Candis Carter Inspiration Award presented by Bill Marshall on Memorial Day morning before a large crowd of supporters. Candis Carter, who played for Cowlitz Volleyball Club, was an inspiration to all who knew her and were lucky enough to watch her play. Tragically Candis was lost in the summer of her 17th year in a car accident after a night out partying with her friends.

Out of approximately 2,000 volleyball players participating in this tournament, only three players were selected to receive this award. Like Candis, these three winners embody the traits that make you stop and watch when you walk by any court they are playing on. Congratulations to these three special ladies who were recognized for their leadership and passion for our game:

Diana Villalpando
  (Nike NW 18 Air/Elite)
Erin Lindstrom
  (S.Sound Ohana 16 Kara)
Katie Mardesich
  (Rose City Mizuno 14 Blk)
