PSR Regionals This Weekend

WVBA Mizuno 16s pose for judges of the Reno Makeup contest

SEATTLE, WA - May 4, 2007
WVBA sends its four elder teams into the Puget Sound Regional Championship tournament this weekend. The three younger teams finished their regionals two weeks ago and have taken this week off for a well-deserved rest.

WVBA Mizuno 18
Mizuno 18 will be playing at Juanita High School on Saturday and Sunday. They are the #1 seed overall in the tournament and their first pool is a 3-team pool with Power Surge 18 Black and Northshore 18 Black.

WVBA Mizuno 18-Red
Mizuno 18-Red will also be playing at Juanita High School on Saturday and Sunday. They begin play as the #3 seed in a 4-team pool with #1 Above the Net 18, #2 Saturday Warriors Total Control, and #4 Mt. Baker 18 Avalanche.

WVBA Mizuno 17
Mizuno 17 is the #6 seed overall and #1 in their initial 3-team pool. They will start play in Fife at Columbia Junior High School. They will start play against #3 Power Surge 17 and then finish the first pool against rival #2 seed Mukilteo Blue Ice.

WVBA Mizuno 16
Mizuno 16 will play at Jackson High School in Mill Creek Saturday and Sunday. They begin play as the #1 overall seed in the region as Puget Sound 16 Gold dropped out of the tournament to rest some of their injured players. Mizuno 16 will be joined by #2 NW Juniors 16 Heat, #3 KJ 16 Mizuno, and #4 Wahine 16 Green Lanakila.

Far Westerns Results
WVBA came away from Reno without a JO bid to add to the four already earned.

WVBA Mizuno 18 held the #1 overall seed in the 18 Open Division after pool play on Saturday. However their spirits dropped considerably when dynamic outside hitter Betsy Devich went down with a knee injury. Unfortunately we learned on Wednesday that Betsy's injury included a torn ACL and will require surgery. Mizuno 18 finished 15th in 18 Open

WVBA Mizuno 18-Red had quite a few excellent matches during the 3-day tournament. They finished 57th out of 84 teams in the 18 Club Division.

WVBA Mizuno 17 had a tough tournament. They finished 23rd overall in the 17 Open Division.

WVBA Mizuno 16 had a great first day winning their pool. They were on their way in the first match of day 2 rolling Mizuno Long Beach in the first set. Then the wheels came off and they lost the next four sets before recovering on Sunday. They worked their way past some quality teams on Sunday before falling to Golden Bear in the Silver finals to finish 14th overall in the 16 Open Division.

WVBA Mizuno 15 was very competitive all weekend. They finished with a win in the Bronze Division to finish 17th overall in 15 Open.

WVBA Mizuno 14 played very well at times and faced some of the strongest competition they have seen yet in their young careers. They finished with a very convincing win over local rival KJ 14 Baden on Sunday and finished the tournament in the 20th position in 14 Open.

WVBA Mizuno 13 had another strong outing. They finished day 1 in 2nd place to move up into the top half. Day 2 had our 13s in a 3-way tie for 1st which they eventually lost to drop to 3rd place. They rallied again on Sunday and made it to the finals of the Silver Division where they fell to Gold Cal 13s to finish 14th overall in the 13 Club Division.
