WVBA Mizuno 13s Pose with their Championship Tees from Wahine Tourney

SEATTLE, WA - Jan. 29, 2007
WVBA Mizuno 13 and Mizuno 14 played in older age divisions this past Sunday. WVBA 13s played in the U14 tournament held at Evergreen State College on Sunday while the 14s were playing in the Wahine U16 tournament at Franklin-Pierce High School in Tacoma.

WVBA Mizuno 14 finished 3rd in Gold Division Sunday with a loss to Power Surge 15s in the semi-finals.

WVBA Mizuno 13 had a great day in the U14 division going undefeated all the way through the tournament to finish 1st overall.

The middles were key to their success on Sunday. Olivia Magill, Priya Hazari, and Amy Kneepkens shared duties in the middle.

It would not have been possible to run the middle without the help of defensive specialists Julie Nelson and Ku'uleilani Sanford who maintained the ball control all day long.

Power League Continues
The Puget Sound Power League will continue on Saturday, February 10th:
  • WVBA Mizuno 18 at Franklin-Pierce High School

  • Mizuno 18-Red and Mizuno 17 will be at Kent-Meridian High School

  • Mizuno 14 and Mizuno 14 will be at Evergreen State College

  • WVBA Mizuno 16 and Mizuno 15 will play at Franklin-Pierce High School on Sunday, February 11th
U16 Power League Results
WVBA Mizuno 15 started on Saturday at Tillicum Middle School. The Academy 15s moved up one seed on Sunday by finishing 5th in the Silver Division at Washington High School in Tacoma.

WVBA Mizuno 16 started in Olympia at Evergreen State College on Saturday. Starting setter Kerry Clavadetscher went down with a high ankle sprain late in the day. Backup setter Janelle Chow came in and set a brilliant match to get the team through to the Gold Division.

Coach Carly Caple was challenged when Janelle had to leave for her basketball game before the final match of the day against Puget Sound 15 Gold. Carly needed to go her #3 setter. The problem is, we don't have a #3 setter. She called upon libero Kendra Cotton who stepped into the setting role and did a great job.

On Sunday WVBA Mizuno 16 moved over to Bellevue Community College and ran through the pool play by defeating KJ 16 Baden, Sudden Impact 16 Thunder and University Place 16s. They defeated Puget Sound 15 Gold in the first playoff match to set up a Gold Division final against Puget Sound 16 Gold.

WVBA took the first set pretty easily with a 25-14 win. However they dropped the next two close sets 27-29 and 13-15 to finish 2nd. They look forward to a rematch in Power League 2 on February 11th.

WVBA Mizuno 16 were led Sunday by All-America candidate Kylin Munoz on the outside who hit .494 with 53 kills on 87 swings and middle hitter Jamie McDonald who hit a very strong .524 with 15 kills for the day.
