Welcome to the 2007 WVBA International Player Journal PageHere we will be publishing our player journals throughout the trip. Each player will be writing about their experience during their day. Below is the journal entry for the third day of the Minas Copa tournament in Belo Horizonte, from Rachel Shober...enjoy![]()
Day 3 of the Minas Copa Internacional, by Rachel Shober After yelling at Kendra to wake up three more times, we finally made our way downstairs to eat another delicious breakfast of chocolate cake, juice, fruit, and toast. Our game wasn't until 10:30, but both Elisa and Flavia played at 8:30, so we had to be at the gym extra early. While both our girls played, Kendra and I slept on the bleachers. Finally, it was time for our match against Mackenzie, a team from Belo Horizonte. We played well, but both games slipped away in the end. It was a tough loss. Our next game wasn't until 4, so Ky, Kendra, Janna, Deedra and I ate lunch and just killed time at the club. Our next match was against a team called Olympico. We had not won a game yet, and if we lost this match then we wouldn't play at all the next day. Dave W brought his Peruvian pet Larry the Llama for good luck, and we all tapped his head on our way out to the court. Before the match started, after all the players were on the court, the referee held the match for a moment of silence to recognize the passing of Jerrika's grandfather. We ended up winning the match in two games! But of course it was not luck that brought us our victory; we all played hard and worked together as a team. After the match everybody went to a burger place called Eddie's for dinner. It was very fun, and delicious! Kendra, Elisa, Flavia, and I went home and watched the USA men's volleyball team get embarrassed by Brasil in the Pan-American Games final. Then we were off to bed, we needed sleep for our last match against Mackenzie the next day! Back to the 2007 WVBA International Team Page |
