Scooping the last two Coho on 9/28/05
Purse Seiner "Admiral" scoops the last two coho in front of Edmonds on 9/28/05

I was a little surprised to catch this purse seiner out in the daylight. Normally these cowards hide behind the cover of darkness when they do their dirty deeds. This crew must have thought it might be foggy when the sun came up so they could slither away in relative anonymity after scooping the last two coho in front of Edmonds after what must have been an all-nighter.
Obviously the fishing was dissapointing to say the least on Wednesday this week. Why is it that commercial harvesting of our supposed fragile salmon resources is still allowed in a metropolitan area of nearly 2 million people? I don't understand the logic of this kind of reckless management.
What will they do next, bring back subsidies for buggy whip makers and wooden wagon wheel repair shops? We just cannot continue to harvest our fragile salmon resouces inside the Puget Sound with these kill-everything methods like purse seiners.

Mansfield Peninsula Report

Put the steelhead gear away and gear up for spring kings! The Sol Duc is showing signs of spring salmon making their way up to the state salmon hatchery. This year's forecast from the state for the Sol Duc River is good but the Hoh river is still undecided if it's going to open this year.
Dave Lowe of the Washington State Game Department is in meetings to determine if it's going to happen. He said by next week their ruling will be posted.

Jerry Carpenter had a great surprise when up from the depths came this beautiful hatchery king salmon. If anyone would like to try their luck give me some mail and set a date to do battle with the kings of the sol duc river.
